Developing the key players in the educational system

The teaching staff in the educational sector both at the tertiary and basic school levels; need motivation, constant upgrading and consistent training and re-training for capacity enhancement.  An African proverb says,

“A container cannot give out what it does not contain when opened or mounted with pressure”.

A teacher employed to teach can only impart from his knowledge bank. Local-oriented teachers cannot graduate students that will perform at the international level, it will require teachers developed with internationally-based content whether outside or within their home countries. The content of the training package matters a great deal if they are going to impart and groom others. For instance, if a lecturer does not have computer and internet skills, how will he/she adopt modern teaching and learning platforms and methods? Skilled and competent lecturers can mentor their junior colleagues/students or organize tailored trainings to share relevant knowledge and skills.
For this reasons, the academic planning unit of the Polytechnic deems it necessary to draw viable plans for development of the academic community in the system. The academic staff are therefore enjoined to be open to change and  have a heart of service and patriotism to move the Federal Polytechnic Ekowe forward for a better Nigeria.
